RAWALPINDI - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has awarded party ticket to former MPA Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal to contest by-elections from constituency PP-6, informed sources here on Saturday.

The by-elections in PP-6 are scheduled for August 22, 2013. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz stalwart and Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan vacated the PP-6 seat after beating its arch rivals Bilal Afzal Khokhar, a joint candidate of PPP and PML-Q, and PTI’s Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi as he opted to be member of National Assembly.

Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal, who also served the people in PP-6 as MPA after winning general elections 2008, submitted his nomination papers for party ticket in general elections 2013 but later dropped from the run on pressure of party leadership

Well-placed sources told The Nation this decision was taken on the recommendation on Ch Nisar, who is divisional in-charge of the party and his recommendations were endorsed by the party chief Mian Nawaz Sharif.

Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal, When contacted, confirmed the development saying his party has asked him to start electioneering in the area to woo support of voters. He said that the formal letter of party ticket would be received within two days and he would present it before the returning officer.

In the election arena, tough competition is expected between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Chaudhry Safraz Afzal and PTI’s Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, who was defeated by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan with a very close margin in general elections 2013.

However, PPP fielded this time a new candidate Raja Ammar Mehdi on the place of Bilal Afzal Khokhar.
