KARACHI - All the markets in the port city reportedly are suffering on account of authorities’ mismanagement which is unable to control traffic and parking places, claim the citizens.

Several roads of the metropolis witnessed a massive traffic jam in the evening as people rushed towards homes for iftar.

Mostly these traffic jams are seen on Mohamad Ali Jinnah Road, I.I Chundrigar Road, Dr Ziauddin Road, Saddar, Preedy Street, Burns Road, Club Road, Abdullah Haroon Road, Tariq Road, Haidry and Shahr-e-Pakistan and other roads of the city.

Hundreds of the vehicles are seen stuck on the roads and motorists complained they exhausted fuel as they even could not switch off their vehicles. The traffic police and city wardens have not been actively performing their duties, they claimed.

The traffic police say the traffic police are not supposed to manage the traffic plan while the strength of wardens is insufficient.

They say the main reason of traffic jam is encroachment by the traders, they have occupied the three feet area of the roads despite high ups failed to operate against the encroachments.

However, the construction works at four flyovers have caused a major traffic jam on Shahr-e-Pakistan which was delayed from couple of months by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The situation goes worse after entering the heavy traffic including trucks and trailers after 9 pm. The KMC administrator has appealed to the citizens to fully cooperate with the personnel deployed at the sites of charged parking for improvement of traffic flow and do not pay more than pre-decided fee of parking.
