Dean Faculty of Islamic Learning Dr Saleem Tariq Khan has assumed the charge of acting vice-chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur on the recommendations of Punjab Governor Muhammad Sarwar.

The HEC has issued the notification. Dr Saleem started his career as lecturer at Islamia University in 1979 and got promotion as assistant professor in 1986. In 1998, he was promoted as associate professor and in 2001 he was appointed as professor in the university.

He has excellent academic record as well as vast experience of administrative works in the university in different capacities. He completed his master’s degree in Arabic with 84% marks and earned gold medal from Punjab University, Lahore in 1977 and later completed PhD in 1986 from the same university.

Meanwhile, outgoing Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar thanked the staff and teachers for their cooperation during his four-year tenure.

He said that he had handed over the charge of the vice chancellor to Dr Muhammad Saleem. “Personally, I am thankful to everyone who helped us in making IUB one of the best in the Southern Punjab and elevation of its ranking from 17 to 8 as well as 2nd best in the nation as far as science and technology ranking is concerned,” he said.

He acknowledged the media had a major contribution as far as the success stories of the university are concerned. “You really shielded us from anti-educational forces and whenever we asked you to transfer the university voices to higher authorities, you conveyed with professional grace, honour and respect,” he said.

He added, “In the coming days when historian will write about the contribution of media in the development of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, they will definitely quote your contribution to its development.”

“The IUB is recognised in the world and fiscally stable. It brought four-time raise in its budget from Rs700 million in 2010 to Rs2,800m in 2014. There are hundreds of success stories to quote that I will do in my upcoming book in future,” he said.

Dr Muhammad Mukhtar prayed for the success of new VC of the university. He said that Dr Saleem Tariq Khan and all other deans, officers, faculty, employees professionally did an outstanding job for the university.
