Flood threat prompts red alert

DERA GHAZI KHAN - The district administration has issued red alert in view of the looming flood threat to cope with any emergent situation, Said Additional District Collector Mehboob Ahmed while briefing the mediamen on Monday.
He informed that more than 0.55 million cusec water flow is expected in Indus River during the next three days which is likely to inundate 19 villages, adding that 13 out of 23 embankments have been declared as dangerous in district. He claimed that the district government has distributed 9,000 bottles of mineral water and 812 tents among people of flood-prone areas in more than 40 relief camps.
Due to expected flood, people have been evacuated from Basti Naseer, Basti Kulachi and Basti Morr Jhangi of Tehsil Taunsa Sharif, Basti Khar, Basti Chandia, Basti Asghar Abbas, Basti Sikhani, Basti Pithan Ali, Basti Kharo, Basti Meetla, Basti Korai and Basti Mogha of Tehsil DG Khan and Basti Baet Chain Wala, Basti Baet Wala, Basti Chajoo, Basti Rindan, Basti Bhandi Suleman, Jhakar Imam Shah and Sheroo of Tehsil Kot Chutta. He shared that 68,850 acres land has been inundated including 27,028 acres cultivated land.
