Junk food contains high level of calories which come from fat. On the other hand, they contain little fibre, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Food commonly considered as junk foods includes burger, pizzas, sandwiches, fried fast food and sugary, carbonated beverages. Unhealthy eating habits have grown among the population of our country.
A number of countries have adopted various forms of legislated action to stop junk food consumption from growing. Recently India’s Kerala state has imposed a “fat tax” on junk food to counter rising obesity. The Punjab food authority has recently taken steps to regulate food chains. The government must take strict and immediate action regarding this matter.
