Islamabad - The members of the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) yesterday demanded the mayor to constitute a privilege committee of the house so that the CDA officials could be held accountable before the elected representatives.

The meeting of the IMC was held here at Pak-China Friendship Centre with Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz in the chair. PTI’s Ali Awan was of the view that the IMC members are not getting positive response from the CDA officials. He said constitution of the committee is vital to make the officials accountable in their decisions. He said the proposed committee would summon any official if he does not cooperate with public representatives on matters of public interest. The other members also endorsed the idea. The mayor observed that some elements in the bureaucracy did not want this new system run.

He lamented that CDA gave least attention to water shortage issue in the past. However, he told the gathering that water supply directorate has been given Rs 60 million to overcome the problem.

The mayor also constituted a committee to make arrangements for 14th August celebrations. However, the mayor said his office has no funds yet for the celebrations. He said that the day would be celebrated with full zeal.

The members also demanded offices especially in the rural areas of the capital and sought electricity loadshedding in rural and urban areas on equal basis.
