SIALKOT/GUJRANWALA-The widespread torrential rain played havoc in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Gujranwala and surrounding localities and rang alarm bells of flood in these areas.

Routine activities remained suspended as daylong widespread rain lashed Sialkot region which received 120 mm rain on Wednesday. It started Wednesday morning and remained continued for the whole day uninterruptedly. It remained dark cloudy with the loud thunder of the clouds. Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur cities remained inundated badly paralysing all the civic, business, trade and social activities.

The rain also inundated all the low-lying urban and rural areas of Sialkot region, which paralysed all the political social, trade and business activities forcing the people to come out on the roads and in the streets to enjoy.

The people enjoyed the pleasant weather after the heavy rain in Sialkot region as the winds continuously blew making the weather pleasant.

It also exposed the poor performance of the local TMAs which allegedly remained unable to handle the situation. These cities remained under about three to four feet rainy and sewerage water the whole day, as the local TMAs' sanitation staff remained miserably failed to spill out the water. The nasty situation also posed 2014-like flood threats, which had inundated the Sialkot region.

The monsoon spell has badly exposed the height of negligence of Sialkot TMA due to which all the main city roads including Model Town, Kutchery Road, Paris Road, Abbot Road, Jail Road, Railway Road, Mujahid Road, Shahabpura Road, Rangpura, Hajipura , Prem Nagar, Pooran Nagar, Commissioner Road, Bano Bazaar Lehaai Bazaar, Kashmiri Bazaar, Urdu Bazaar, Jandar Bazaar, Muslim Bazaar, congested Allama Iqbal Chowk, Khadim Ali Road, Sialkot Airport Road and Hajipura Road were inundated with water.

Besides, all the congested residential, industrial and commercial areas including Sialkot railway station, Sialkot District Jail and all the main and link roads leading towards the Sialkot International Airport.

All these roads and areas were presenting a canal view badly paralysing the civic life. Several people were found while swimming in these inundated city roads here in Sialkot and Daska. It entered into the houses and the factories in Small Industrial Estate Sialkot here due to which the people remained busy wiping out water from their houses and factories.

In Daska city, the outer walls of Govt Boys Degree College Daska and General Post Office Daska collapsed during heavy rain. The official residence of Assistant Commissioner Daska was also inundated due to rainwater.

All the chocked sewerage and drainage lines overflowed due to rain in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur cities. They remained under the knee-deep water due to which several transport vehicles remained struck on these roads.

Meanwhile, the electricity and telecommunication systems were badly damaged here due to which the electricity remained suspended for several consecutive hours.

The officials of Sialkot MET office have forecast more widespread heavy rains in the Sialkot region and in all the catchment areas of neighbouring Occupied Jammu & Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

Also in Gujranwala, heavy rain paralysed the life in the city as water entered the buildings and a number of houses in low-lying areas. The drainage system of the entire city collapsed as about two feet rainwater accumulated on all major roads and streets.
