Army called out in NA-57

ISLAMABAD - Recounting of votes polled in NA-57 Murree and PP-6 Murree will be conducted today.

According to details, former prime minister and PML-N candidate for NA-57 Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and PML-N candidate for PP-6 Raja Ashfaq Sarwar in their applications to the Returning Officer had demanded recounting of the votes in their respective constituencies.

They alleged massive rigging in the election and non-provision of Forms 45 to the polling agents on several polling stations in these two constituencies.

The returning officer issued notices to the concerned quarters for the recounting of votes on Saturday.

The petitioners, who were accompanied by their legal counsels and hundreds of supporters on the occasion, wanted immediate initiation of the vote recounting process. They chanted slogans and demanded recounting of votes. The civil administration meanwhile called out army troops to avert any untoward incident and maintain law and order. However, the situation remained calm till the filing of this report.
