ECP summons secretary interior,  Commissioner Islamabad for  explanation on issue of 50 UCs

ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned secretary interior and Commissioner Islamabad to seek explanation about the withdrawal of written statement by Ministry of Interior regarding the establishment of 50 union councils in Islamabad. The ECP will also ask Commissioner Islamabad about the progress of arrangements and measures taken adminstration for next Local Government elections. In a top official briefing session of ECP headed by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Raja Sikandar Sultan, ECP was informed that the ministry of interior through a symbolic written statement on May 18, had asked ECP to establish a total of 50, union councils in Islamabad.
The high ups of ECP were further informed that following the written statement of Interior Ministry, ECP issued schedule for the delimitation on June 21, this year, however, the ministry once again withdrew it’s written statement on July 6, which halted the entire process of ECP regarding the new delimitation in capital.
The Commission has asked Secretary Interior and Commissioner Islamabad to appear before the Commission on August 5. The ECP in the meeting also discussed the planning for new delimitation on federal and provincial level after the official publication of latest census conducted in 2017. ECP decided that it will take help of Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Attorney General in making new plannings for delimitation.
The Commission also decided to summon the chief secretaries and Local Government secretaries of Sindh and Balochistan on August 10, to ask them about their preparations and plannings for the upcoming Local Government elections in provinces.
