Pakistan has become the melting pot for all the evil extremists, some homegrown, others imported, while quite a number of them are a unique product of their our own laboratories. As a nation we must stop accusing our enemies, for we cannot expect anything better from them than making mischief against us. The intelligent solution is to assess our follies and ill-advised handling of matters. Pakistan's problems started much before 1947. We have distorted our history, betrayed our founding fathers and ended up with all our priorities dictated by the uniformed adventurists who neither believed in our ideology, nor respected the Quaid or Allama Iqbal. The majority Bengali Muslims were the first who raised the slogan of Muslim nationhood, much before others did in either muslim minority areas or the areas that now constitute Pakistan. In 1915, the Muslim majority province of Punjab formed Punjab Muslim League. Had these two Muslim majority states not joined, followed by Sindh, the Muslim minority provinces could never have made any headway, for nations can only be created out of territories, not dreams. After the creation of Pakistan in 1947 and the unfortunate death of Quaid e Azam and Liaquat Ali Khan, Pakistan's fate fell into the hands of those who neither believed in democracy, nor had any commitment to Pakistan and its ideology. -RAHAT SIDDIQI, Karachi, via e-mail, June 22.
