LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a Civil Secretariat’s main canteen and a Coffee Bar in Qaddafi Stadium while continuing a crackdown on the sale of unhygienic and sub-standard food in the provincial metropolis.
On the directions of the PFA Director General Noor ul Amin Mengal, Deputy Director (operations) Lahore instructed to food safety teams for inspecting the quality of food and hygiene issues. The teams conducted raids in the different Zones of Lahore including Iqbal Town, Mughalpura, Gulberg, Johar Town, Mazang, Thokar Niaz Baig, Wagha Town, Shadrah and its surrounding areas.
According to details, a team of the PFA sealed Civil Secretariat’s canteen for using rotten fruits and vegetables, improper cleanliness arrangements, an abundance of insects, usage of rusted freezers and for using expired ingredients. Besides, the PFA sealed a TM Coffee Bar over the presence of expired products, for wearing jewellery, the presence of insects in sweet trays, stinky environment and not having a food license.
The PFA also imposed Rs 43,000 fine over violation of provincial food law and served warning notices for improvement on 58 food points.
