ISLAMABAD (APP) - President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday welcomed US President's initiatives for Pakistan to strengthen democracy and his call to US Congress to pass a bill for $1.5 billion aid to Pakistan every year. Zardari said that Pakistan has always held Pak-US relations in high esteem and his announcements during speech on new strategy on Afghanistan and Pakistan will further cement these ties. He said creation of Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs) in tribal areas with US help, will create an enabling environment for the people there, distressed for a long time by terrorism and extremism. Monitoring Desk adds: Pakistan welcomed on Friday a new US surge in Afghanistan and promised to cooperate, saying the Administration of President Obama had a 'very positive approach' to the situation in the region, reports a private TV channel. "I think the new Obama Administration's approach is a very positive approach. They are looking towards a regional approach to the situation," Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a foreign news agency in Moscow. "Pakistan is willing to play an active, constructive role in this because we feel our peace and security is linked to Afghanistan's... there is spillover," he said.
