The U.S. military says Afghan and coalition troops killed 12 militants during a raid on a compound in southern Afghanistan. The U.S. says the troops encountered gunfire from militants in and around the compound during the operation in Helmand province late Friday. Saturday's statement says some of the militants tried to use women and children as shields. The U.S. says troops called for civilians to exit the compound, but none complied. The statement says one child received a minor injury during the battle and was given immediate treatment by coalition troops.
