When we started our educational career, we were taught Deeniyat in Schools. Then came the rule of General Zia-Ul Haq and the curriculum was again changed. The subject was renamed as Islamiat. Then came the rule of General Musharraf with enlightened moderation as a key slogan, which resulted in changing the subject name to Character Building in many educational Institutions thus falling in line with the changing modern trends. The way things are going, it seems that this subject will totally be done away with considering new values (do we have any?) being inculcated in our younger generation.
