She waited in vain for more than 12 years for justice to be done in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. At end of the day, her physical pain and emotional trauma took over and Fakhra ended her life. What Fakhra did not understand was that her tormentor was a feudal, who could win for any political party, including the concocted setup of a military dictator, a seat in an election from an area, which is notorious for crimes against women. She witnessed the fate of Mukhtaran Mai and Dr Shazia Khalid at the hands of a junta that never stopped propagating their claims for enlightened moderation. What is even more shocking is the silence of vocal women anchors. This country has for too long allowed the daughters of eve to be abused, tortured, raped and subject to acid attacks by scoundrels, who have the resources to influence police investigations and a civil bureaucracy along with lower judiciary dominated by corrupt male chauvinists. Have we forgotten the unresolved murder case during the 90s, in which a Pakistani stewardess working in an airline located in Middle East, went missing from a farm located in Karachi. This is the sad reality where laws are legislated with a lot of fanfare, but seldom implemented.
