KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has directed the party parliamentarians to take steps to repeal the dual nationality law through constitutional amendments immediately and contact the government and other parties in this connection.

He urged them to play their role to give overseas Pakistanis the right to participate in elections.

Addressing a joint session of London and Pakistan Coordination Committees, he said: “Overseas Pakistanis send a large sum of foreign exchange every month.

They send billions of rupees in aid whenever natural disasters strike us or emergency occurs. They protect the prestige and interests of Pakistan abroad. It is extremely unfair to prevent them from participating in Pakistan’s politics. It is sheer cruelty to stop them from participating in politics. It is the demand of the patriotic overseas Pakistanis to lift this constitutional ban through a constitutional amendment.”

He demanded the government to take steps to provide decent livelihood to people who are living below the poverty line in Pakistan. He also demanded that doctors, paramedical staff and medicines should be dispatched to Thar and Cholistan. “Every effort must be taken to help the impoverished people of Thar and Cholistan,” he urged.
