ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government at what stage did it come closer to holding local bodies polls as claimed by provincial officials.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Khilji Araf Hussain and Justice Dost Muhammad sought the reply while hearing the case regarding LB polls in KP.
KP Advocate General (AG) Latif Yusufzai told the court the provincial government had completed delimitation process but after apex court’s directions to the ECP to conduct delimitation, the government of KP was confused that what order would be passed for the province.
Upon this, Justice Khilji said that the court decision about delimitation was just for the Punjab and the Sindh government and not for any other province, so the KP government should complete its arrangements for the elections.
Later, the bench while directing the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to hold local bodies elections in the province and sought a progress report from AG. The court then adjourned the case.
