Islamabad - The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile Industry called for organising investment conferences to tape the trade and investment potentials of expatriates Pakistanis living in different parts abroad.
The Committee which met here with Senator Karim Ahmad Khawaja in the chair also asked government for providing incentives and facilities to attract foreign direct investment in the country.
The Committee also asked for proper legislation to promote and protect investors’ interest and investments for business promotion, economic growth and employment generation in the country. The meeting also stressed the need for addressing visa and security issues besides enhancement of institutional capacity and establishment of one window operation for investment and trade opportunities in the country. The Sub-Committee also observed that working performance of different departments and institutions were not up to the mark and asked for taking steps for the capacity building of these institutions. The Committee also directed the Ministry of Commerce to submit performance reports of the commercial attaches posted abroad and proper monitoring of their performance.
