Workshop on ‘LG Act’ held

The Punjab government is willing to transfer the powers at local level and improving the education and health sectors, a lawmaker during a workshop held jointly by USAID and a non-profit organisation.
During the workshop titled “Punjab Local Government Act 2013”, MPA Shamila Aslam said that the local governments are the basic units of democracy and the powers would be transferred at the local level under the act.
He said that accountability would be carried out to ensure transparency in all the departments especially education and health. He praised the efforts of the non-profits. The participants of the workshop included Markazi Anjuman Tajran District President Muhammad Jamil Bhatti, Zaffar Ali Advocate, Abdul Rauf, Manzoor Barakat and representatives of civil society.
ARRESTS: Police in separate incidents seized drugs, illegal weapons and liquor in different raids. The police also arrested Iftikhar Hussain of Chak 445/EB, Imran of Mujahid Colony, Ghulam Yasin Shaikh of Sahuka and Zia alias Muhammad Tufail of Chak 98/EB Meanwhile, it arrested Abdul Ghaffar of Chak 289/EB along with his three accomplices and recovered stolen timber of Rs30,000.
Ringleaders of criminal gang busted:  The City Police claimed to have arrested two ringleaders of dacoit’s gang involved in a robbery at Moon Cotton Factory Unit No2 and recovered booty from them.
Vehari DPO Sadiq Ali Dogar disclosed this while addressing a press conference here the other day.
He said that nine armed robbers looted Rs800,000, transformer cables and other equipment from Moon Cotton Factory Unit No-2 after taking gunmen and watchmen hostage  at gunpoint about a month ago.
The police nabbed two gang leaders Niaz Abid and Qaiser Nadeem of Bahawalpur and remaining seven suspects were still at large, he claimed.
He said that the police recovered Rs1 million, two cars, motorcycle and cellphones from them.
He said that the accused confessed that they committed same kind of robberies in Bahwalnagar and Chishtian areas. Burewala ASP Asif Ahmed Bhugio, Mohammad Jamil Bhatti, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Muhammad Sagheer Ramay, Azhar Ghafoor and Mohammad Ashiq were present on the occasion.
