Former Czech president Vaclav Havel, two other Nobel laureates and several other world figures called for increased international support for the Myanmar opposition led by Aung San Suu Kyi.In a joint declaration issued in Prague late Tuesday, they also called on Myanmar's citizens to reject the constitution that the ruling military junta put up for approval in a recent referendum. It was signed, among others, by Havel, winner of the Nobel prize for literature, and by two Nobel peace prize laureates; the South Africans Desmond Tutu and apartheid-era president Frederik Willem de Klerk."The military-run referendum will not bring democracy to Burma, nor will it help the Burmese people, who now are suffering not only from the authoritarian regime and poverty, but also from a grave natural disaster," said the text.
