Lahore make impressive debut in Benazir memorial soccer

LAHORE - Winger Saeed Qureshi struck twice in each session as DFA Lahore brushed aside DFA Okara 2-0 while Toor Club caught DFA Khanewal by surprise with sensational 2-1 win  as two more matches were decided in All Pakistan Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Flood-lit Football Tournament. The absorbing matches were watched by big audience at Okara's Municipal Stadium, 126 KM from Lahore. The 24-team event was inaugurated by Punjab Minister for Labour & Manpower Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has decided to dedicate this championship to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and called foremost organizations/club for the event in memory of former Prime Minister of Pakistan. The final is scheduled for 1 June 2008 whose chief guest will be Punjab Governor Salman Taseer. Under managership of Tahir Hussain, Lahore outfit had an easy time against home team and Saeed Qureshi gave them early 5th minute lead. He doubled the lead in the 42nd minute as Lahore had moved in last 16. As expected Khanewal took the lead through striker Mahmood Butt in the 13th minute but Toor FC staged fine recovery and winger Yasir drew level on the stroke of half-time. The match winner appeared in the 65th minute when front-runner Adeem Shahzad hoodwinked three markers and sent the ball low past advancing keeper. The matches was supervised by Shams Pervez while Rauf Bari, Muhammad Ali acted as his assistants
