RAWALPINDI - Upkeeping their 'self-styled' attitude, the Punjab Police and local administration were witnessed misbehaving with the journalists, creating problematic situation by not allowing them who were gathered there to cover the second Pak-Afghan one-day match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday. The management at the stadium was a total flop as the journalists were forced to sit at a makeshift camp, which was absolutely unable to provide shelter to them. Throughout the match, the ground admin regrettably remained busy entertaining as well as accommodating their personal guests at the space allocated only for sports journalists. Amid the rising temperature, not a single bottle of water or any other facility was provided to the media persons. The legitimate journalists were even totally ignored by the ground administration during the lunchtime. President Rawalpindi Region and Member PCB Governing Board Maj (Retd) Naeem Akhtar Gilani was approached several times by the journalists, however, this gentleman did not pay heed to that situation as he was busy in serving his personal guests, which were invited in bulk. In the past when Ashraf Qureshi was at the helm of Rawalpindi affairs that kind of situation was never witnessed as he personally used to look after each and every visiting journalist. During the match, the media persons were not even provided with the score-sheet despite several requests by them. The police was not far behind in putting their share in adding to the miseries of the journalists as the blue-eyed persons were given the access with their vehicles to the main gate of the stadium but journalists were directed to park their cars and bikes almost one kilometre away from the entrance. And when journalists were finally able to reach the main gate by walking under the burning sun they were treated like aliens by the policemen deputed at the main gate. When the journalists tried to contact the high authorities of the stadium management no one was available to listen to the genuine demands of the journalists. After such a long time when an international match was finally being played at Rawalpindi stadium, it was the duty of the administration Rawalpindi Region head to provide maximum facilities to visiting media persons who have gathered their to cover the match.
