Strike in parts of Balochistan

QUETTA - A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Baloch-dominated areas of the province on Friday to condemn the recovery of bullet-riddled bodies of Baloch missing persons and violation of human rights in Balochistan. The strike call was given by the Balochistan National Party (Mengal). All shops, markets, banks, restaurants and even pharmacies remained closed for the day due to the strike. Life remained at a standstill in these areas due to the strike. However, some restaurants and medical stores resumed their business in the evening. The strike was observed in Nushki, Basima, Washuk, Kharan, Dalbandin, Panjgur, Turbat, Khuzdar and other areas. A large number of policemen and other law enforcement personnel were deployed in the areas to avoid any untoward incident. Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, a local organisation struggling for the recovery of missing persons claimed that more then 150 bodies of missing persons have been recovered over past nine months from different parts of Balochistan. Meanwhile, three people, including a woman were killed in separate incidents in different parts of Balochistan on Friday. According to details, a person identified as Ameer Bakhsh allegedly shot dead his wife Jamila Bibi in Eastern Bypass area of Quetta, in the name of honour and escaped from the scene after committing the crime. Police after being informed about the incident rushed to the site and moved the body to hospital for autopsy. Police handed over body to heirs after completing legal formalities and registered a case against the accused person. In another incident, unidentified armed assailants killed a person in Naseerabad district. Police sources said that armed assailants attacked Ehsanullah with axes and later opened fire on him before escaping from the site. Consequently, he received multiple wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. Motive behind the murder is said to be old enmity. Police handed over body to heirs and started a search in the area to arrest the accused persons. Meanwhile, a teenager drowned in Pishin while swimming in a dam. Habib-ur-Rehman, 18, had gone for picnic to Band Khushdil Khan near Pishin alongwith his friends. He jumped into the water but could not maintain his balance and drowned. Local swimmers retrieved his body from the dam and hand over it to the heirs. Meanwhile, a Station House Officer (SHO) narrowly escaped bomb blast while a policeman received injuries in Dera Murad Jamali area of Naseerabad district in the wee hours of Friday. As per reports reaching here, SHO Saddar Ghulam Mustafa was passing from Mengal Kot area of Dera Murad Jamali when explosives planted along the road exploded soon after his vehicle passed by the area. As a result, one policeman identified as Sahib Dad sustained serious injuries, however, SHO remained unhurt. The blast badly damaged the vehicle. Sources said that the explosives were detonated through a remote-controlled device. Police cordoned off the area and started a search drive to apprehend the culprits.
