Multan - At least 10 students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) got seriously injured when a group of their opponents, who were identified as activists of Peoples Students Federation (PSF), student wing of ruling PPP, suddenly attacked them at the main gate of the varsity on Thursday evening. The injured were rushed to Nishtar Hospital by Rescue 1122 officials where the condition of two students is stated to be precarious. Over three dozen assailants, who were armed with clubs, iron rods and other tools, encircled the workers of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) just outside police post and badly thrashed them. Although the IJT workers kept screaming for help, the cops stood silent, staring at the battlefield. Traffic remained suspended on Bosan Road for about one hour because of the clash while the main gate of BZU presented the view of a war torn area. The injured students were identified as Waqas Ijaz, Ghulam Abbas, Zubair, Babar Khan, Waqas Solangi, Ahmad Ali, Ali Ahmad, Saboor Ali, Sana Ullah Aulakh and Faisal Ayyaz. It may be mentioned here that many teachers, students and university staffers have become victims of highhandedness of PSF workers during the last one month but no action is taken against them. They are (PSF workers) being backed by politicians. Whenever they commit any crime, two MPAs from Multan pressurize police not to take any action, said an administrative officer of BZU on condition of anonymity. We are helpless. They broke the hand of a conductor of university bus when he asked them not to enter from female gate. When the aggrieved party approached police, they refused to register FIR. What can we do in this situation? he posed a question.
