OKARA - Hundreds of villagers including women of 49/2L village took out a rally in protest against the allotment of plots in the 5-marlas Jinnah Abadi Scheme to some influential people, here the other day.

Sources told that hundreds of residents of 49/2L including women assembled in Jinnah Park here in Okara from where they took out a rally that was led by Mohammad Hussain, son Khan Bahadar. The participants of the rally were chanting slogans against the favouritism and irregularities in the Jinnah Abadi Scheme initiated by the Punjab government for poor and shelterless people. The protesters, carrying banners and placards, staged a sit-in in front of the DCO Office.

On the occasion, speakers said that the Punjab chief minister had announced the 5-marla scheme for the benefit of the poor and deserving people and not the influential people who possessed a lot of resources. They alleged that some influential people were getting plots for their relatives while the poor and deserving people were being ignored.

Meanwhile, the Okara Assistant Commissioner assured the protesters that only poor and deserving people would be allotted plots in the scheme and all irregularities would be looked into. He said that justice and merit would be ensured the allotment process. Following the AC assurance, the protesters dispersed.
