The PML-N president Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that the Abbottabad operation had destroyed the sovereignty of Pakistan.

Addressing a gathering in Lahore to mark Youm-e-Takbeer, Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan during his tenure had conducted nuclear explosions which acted as a deterrent against future explosions by the country’s enemies.

“India could have attacked Pakistan many times, but due to Pakistan being an atomic power, India could not gather courage to do so,” Nawaz said.

The PML-N chief said that he had rejected a package of Rs 15 billion and decided to test nuclear bombs in 1998. Nawaz said that the day Pakistan became nuclear power he had broken begging bowl.

“It was not easy to test nuclear bomb and I waited for seventeen days ,” Sharif said, and added that the Pakistan’s security strengthened due to the explosions.

Nawaz Sharif said President Asif Ali Zardari had a discussion with him to give indemnity to former president General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf when he decided to step down from the Presidency.

“I was told that I would be blown away if I did not reply the Indian atomic explosions, I conducted the explosions, the nation did not exploded me but Musharraf blew up my government,” he said.

He said that President Zardari had showed no interest in “becoming the president back then” and then Zardari “deceptively” took over the Presidency. “I was shocked when he became the president and so were the people of Pakistan.” He further said that his party did not vote for Zardari as the president.

Nawaz also criticised Zardari for visiting Chicago to attend the Nato Summit. “Zardari should tell the nation what he was doing in Chicago,” he said.  He also expressed concerned over delay in the report of judicial commission on Abbottabad raid.

The PML-N chief also questioned was there anybody in the government who would bring peace in Karachi and Balochistan.

“Baloch leader Akhtar Mengal accompanied me to Chaghai when I decided to test nuclear bombs,” he recalled, and added that no people don’t hesitate to call these people traitors. He said the government was responsible for the worsening situation in Balochistan. He said the people of Bangladesh also rendered many sacrifices for Pakistan, but mistreatment by the Pakistanis forced them to decide their future.

He said those who have been claiming to resolve all the problems within 90 days are speaking lies, an obvious reference to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.

Sharif said the nation was wondering in search of its destination. He added some misguided people had been part of the government and establishment. He said honour  does not come with speeches, it has to be demonstrated, adding that the PML-N demonstrated the honour of the country by conducting nuclear tests despite the world’s opposition.

Following his address, party workers tried to meet Nawaz Sharif but were stopped by security guards. This led to party workers protesting with one even lying down in front of the PML-N president’s car.
