KARACHI – An alleged assassin and a robber were arrested in separate raids in the city on Sunday.

The Special Investigation Unit on Sunday claimed to have arrested a man involved in bank robberies from North Nazimabad. Identified as Mustafa Khattak, the robber confessed that he and accomplices looted at least three banks – two in Karachi and one in Hyderabad – with the help of the security guards.  According to SP Khurram Waris, the accused had looted Rs4 million from a private bank’s branch in Ferozabad, Rs4.4 million from another bank in North Nazimabad and Rs8 million from a bank in Hyderabad.

The official further said the accused was involved in various cases of street crimes.  Raids are being conducted for the arrest of his companions.

Separately, an alleged target killer was arrested from Korangi area by police. He was identified as Qadir, son of Shamim. According to SP Saqib Sultan, the accused and his associates were involved in at least two cases of targeted killings, lodged with the Zaman Town Police Station.

The officer, however, did not confirm the affiliation of the suspect with any political or religious group.

Separately, the Federal Investigation Agency apprehended a man, namely Rustam Ali, from Qambar Shahzad area over the charge of murdering a man in his hometown.

FIA officials said the man, who had escaped to Riyadh, was arrested on a tip-off upon his return. He was later handed over to Qambar Shahzad police for further investigation.
