KARACHI - Two people, including an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, were killed in the ongoing spree of violence in the metropolis on Sunday.

Body of man was recovered from Memon Society, Lyari. Identified as 28-year-old Shahid, son of Zikariya, a resident of Nippier area, the victim was kidnapped from Lea Market in Kharadar area when he went there to meet one of his friends on Saturday. Doctors at the Civil Hospital Karachi said the victim had been shot after being tortured severely.

According to SPO Mithadar Zafar Ali Shah, the victim was an active worker of MQM’s unit 29. He used to run a decoration items shop in Nippier area.

Police officials said it was targeted killing. A case has been registered against unidentified killers on the complaint of the victim’s father.

Following the recovery of the body of the MQM activist, tension simmered in Nippier area and its surroundings. All major shops and markets were closed down over security concerns.

Another body was recovered near Love Lane Bridge in Pak Colony. The victim was later identified as Mohammad Bilal Mengal, 30, son of Mohammad Khan Mengal, a resident of Garden West. SHO Abdul Moid said the body was around two days old. He said the victim had been shot in the temple by unidentified abductors-cum-killers.

According to Mengal’s family, he went missing two days back and that he had no affiliation with any political party.  The body was shifted to the CHK for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. Police officials suspected that Layri gangsters might be behind the killing. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

In another incident, a student was shot dead in Jehanabad area within the jurisdiction of the Pak Colony Police Station. The victim, 25 year-old Nasir, son of Hayat, was a resident of Nishtar Basti. Unidentified gunmen opened fire on him, causing hisd instant death. The body was shifted to the CHK for medico-legal formalities.

The victim hailed from Qalat, Balochistan and was studying MSC in Karachi. Police officials said the victim had no affiliation with any political party, suspecting that he might have been killed over personal enmity. Later, the body was moved to the Edhi Morgue. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
