ISLAMABAD - National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to file a corruption case against its Investigation Officer (IO) in Sindh High Court over corruption charges despite the fact that the accountability court had granted him bail, The Nation learnt yesterday.

On the direction of Director General NAB Karachi, the Bureau filed the case for getting remand of the IO but the court rejected NAB’s plea and granted bail to investigation officer Kamran Ali Janwari who is accused of corruption.

Janwari had allegedly received two air conditioners from an accused against whom he was investigating. The court had also ordered the NAB to ask Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to hold investigations against the officer.

NAB sources told The Nation, the national anti-corruption watchdog did not bother to conduct any internal inquiry against the officer and went to court against its own officer. NAB has claimed that in line with its policy of zero tolerance against corruption, Kamran Janwari, an officer of Investigation Wing III NAB Karachi, has been caught red handed by NAB Karachi. He is being proceeded against under the provisions of NAO 1999. A graft case has been registered against him and has been put behind bars.

On the other side, NAB spokesman Asim Ali Nawzash said NAB will not ask FIA to investigate the NAB officer and the Bureau will launch a departmental inquiry and take action under the light of the inquiry’s report. According to the anti-corruption court judgment, the application for remand of accused Kamran Ali Janwari was filed by the senior Investigation Officer Asghar Khan of NAB in the court of administrative judge, Accountability Court, Karachi, seeking 15-day NAB custody and remand of the accused.

The documents available with The Nation say that DPGA submitted that the accused Kamran Ali is Investigation Officer NAB, that he was authorized to investigate the matter of embezzlement of funds of TMA Chachro by Assistant Commissioner Mehboob Ali Zardari and others. The accused Kamran Ali got two air conditioners as gratification from AC Zardari in the said investigation. The accused was arrested on 17-05-2016.
