KARACHI - Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Saturday held a protest meeting at its Arag Auditorium of Dow Medical College Karachi condemning the arrest, registration of FIR and police custody of Dr Luftullah Baloch and other doctors in alleged negligence case in which a minor boy expired during surgery. DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan, Principle Dow Medical College Prof Junaid Ashraf, President PMA-Karachi Prof M Idress Adhi, Prof Atta-ur-Rehman, HOD Orthopaedic DUHS Dr Munawwar Ali Anjum of Private Hospital & Clinics Association, Senior Faculty member of DUHS and Civil Hospital Karachi attended the meeting. In the meeting, healthcare providers condemned the recent case of alleged negligence and said that doctors are feeling insecure because of frequent incident of killing and kidnapping, and they could not perform their duties in hostile circumstances. Prof Masood Hameed Khan said that the sense of insecurity among the doctors is stimulating brain drain in country. During the meeting, he gave proposal to form a committee to give legal advice to the doctors. He said, DUHS will launch a constitutional petition in Supreme Court on the protection of doctors. DUHS will also pass a legislation to regulate doctors and hospital. Prof Idress Adhi condemned the physical attack on doctors during duty. He demanded the government to provide security and protections to doctors, medical professional and healthcare providers. He said that it is a responsibility of hospital organisation to provide security to the doctors.
