ISLAMABAD - Brushing aside the impression that PML-Q supported the Government in passing RGST bill from the Senate, Ch Shujaat Hussain has said that his party will vote against the bill in the National Assembly. Flanked by Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Wasim Sajjad, during a press conference here on Saturday, the PML-Q chief warned his partys parliamentarians that the leadership would take stern action against those who would go against party decision on the bill in the Lower House. The Upper House does not have the mandate to pass the bill and it has only passed recommendations on the RGST Bill. We will not abstain from voting on RGST in the National Assembly and will completely oppose it, he added. Talking about the recommendations on the bill, Shujaat said that the PML-Q had requested PML-N to reject the bill but they proposed recommendations, while it had agreed with the MQM that it would stage walkout with Q-League against recommendations on RGST in the Upper House and in turn PML-Q would support it on agriculture tax but MQM had not supported them. Wasim Sajjad said that PML-Q staged walkout from the House because its suggestions were not part of the proposed recommendations. We have recommended that the Upper House should ask the Lower House to reject the RGST bill in all means, Wasim Sajjad added. The voting on the bill was not held in the Senate, rather recommendations are given by the Senate Finance Committee, he said. Earlier, a large number of people including politicians, journalists, diplomats and representatives of civil society attended Fateha Khawani for the departed soul of the mother of Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Secretary General PML-Q, at the residence of Ch Shujaat Hussain.
