ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said on Saturday that they are bound to act only under the Constitution and not to take order from any unlawful authority nor to take oath other than the Constitution. The CJP was addressing the participants of the 15th roll-signing ceremony of newly enrolled advocates of Supreme Court at the apex court building here. Fifty-three new advocates - 39 from Punjab, 7 from Sindh, 1 from Balochistan and 6 from Islamabad - were enrolled as advocates of the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice remarked that the judges of Supreme Court and High Courts are subject to Code of Conduct, adding; Our salvation and survival rest upon rule of law and implementation of Constitution. He said that the bench-bar cooperation is must for the justice. It was the duty of the apex court to uphold the supremacy of Constitution, the CJP added. He urged them that after getting enrolled as Supreme Court lawyers they have to work hard in their respective areas of specialization and assist the Supreme Court in dispensation of justice. There is no court in the country above the Supreme Court or any other remedy is available after the apex Court, Therefore, you should come and appear before the court after fully mastering your case in order to properly assist the court. So you should work hard day and night, said the Chief Justice. There is no oath which has to be administered to the advocates of the Supreme Court but it should be their aim and effort that they shall abide by the Constitution and the law. I believe that it is time when the learned members of the bar should give the court the same commitment and should refrain from being influenced by any 'incentive for supporting the acts in contravention of the Constitution, added the CJP. Indeed it is a matter of great pleasure for me to receive you in Supreme Court Building to sign roll as Advocates of the apex Court. I congratulate all of you on behalf of Supreme Court and on my own behalf for signing roll as Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan. Earlier, Dr. Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan welcomed newly enrolled Advocates of Supreme Court and conducted the proceedings of the Ceremony.
