AHMEDPUR EAST - The district administration distributed compensation cheques among the families of 26 people who killed in a road accident in a simple ceremony here the other day.

Punjab Minister for Prisons Malik Iqbal Channar, Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Malik Jehanzeb Warran, Chairman Punjab CM Task Force Chaudhry Samiullah and Bahawalpur DCO Dr Naeef Rauf attended the cheques distribution ceremony.

It is to be noted that after the publication of a news item in Daily ‘The Nation’ on November 24, the District Administration Bahawalpur arranged the long delayed ceremony in Mubarakpur Town.

According to detail, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had visited Mubarakpur town on November 7 and offered his condolences to the heirs of the victims of road accident.

He had announced Rs0.5 million for each of the bereaved families and Rs75,000 for each of the injured. The Bahawalpur administration did not hand over compensation cheques despite the passage of 17-days.

The bereaved families demand was published in The Nation resultantly DCO Bahawalpur along with PML-N leaders rushed to Mubarakpur and delivered compensation cheques. The road accident victims’ families thanked ‘Nawa-i-Waqt Group of Newspapers’ for highlighting their demand.
