RAWALPINDI - Gujar Khan police arrested three members of a gang involved in several crimes ranging between extortion bids to murder and terrorism, and recovered weapons from their possession.

The accused, identified as Javed Ali, Nasir and Zaryab, had been involved in numbers of extortion cases, murders, attempted murder, dacoity, firing on police party and terrorism. However, the gang leader Tariq alias Khaqan, and two of his other accomplices are still at large, disclosed Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Waheed-ur-Rehman Khattak at a press conference held at Police Station (PS) Gujar Khan on Tuesday.

Police recovered a Kalashinkov, two pistols and 500 bullets from the possession of the accused, he informed. DSP Gujar Khan Circle, Station House Officer (SHO) PS Gujar Khan and members of police raiding parties also present on the occasion. SP Khattak, while addressing, said that the arrested accused had extorted money from locals, did murders and attempt to murder, committed robberies and fired at police party. The accused also wanted by police in a case filed under section 7-ATA, SP said adding that the detainees also confessed their crimes during course of investigation. “The arrested troika had extorted money and had threatened several others,” he added.  Replying a query, Waheed replied that police, on a tip off, raided at a house located at Islam Pura Jabbar and nabbed the criminals.

Nonetheless, the gang leader and two of his companions managed to escape from the scene. A team has been constituted to apprehend the accused on run, SP stated.

He said that former SHO PS Gujar Khan Abdul Sattar Khan and his team did a great job by working day and night to trace out the gang members. The area residents appreciated the police action and demanded earlier arrest of the remaining accused.
