LAHORE – Newly-appointed US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson has stressed the need for global support to Pakistan to combat terrorism.

The envoy called on Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa at the Governor House on Tuesday. Appreciating Pakistan’s efforts for maintaining peace in the region, Olson said that Pakistan had been fighting against terrorism and needed global support for for the cause.

The US ambassador said that Afghanistan had an important role in maintaining peace in the region and its leadership would have to take tough decisions and try to resolve international issues through dialogue.

He observed said that peace in Afghanistan hinged on higher literacy rate and stable economy.

During the meeting, the governor extended felicitation to US President Barak Obama on his re-election and termed Olson’s appointment a positive move to cement relations with Pakistan.
