At least five shopkeepers of Sabzi Mandi (vegetable market), allegedly involved in overcharging, were booked and arrested by police here on Wednesday. Three of the arrested shopkeepers were identified as Zahid, Muhammad Hussain and Ramzan. According to details, Regional Police Officer Capt (r) M Ameen Vence visited Sabzi Mandi (vegetable market) along with Chairman Market Committee on direction of the Punjab Chief Minister and inquired about the prices of different vegetables and fruits. After having known that the commodities were being sold at much higher rates than the ones fixed by the government, the RPO reprimanded the profiteers, who got provoked and exchanged hot words with the RPO. The shopkeepers also chanted slogans against police on which the police concerned registered a case against five shopkeepers and arrested them.
