LAHORE - The 3rd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Amateur Golf Championship 2013 will explode into action here at the par-72 Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Golf Course.

General Manager Royal Palm Omer Mir said this in a press conference which was also addressed by Pakistan Navy Station Commander Punjab Commodore Akbar Naqi, Director Golf Col (r) Jameel Khalid and Director Media Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed.

Akber Naqi said this championship had attained an esteemed status and being a tournament of national standing, it had managed to lure the best talent from all over the country.

Col Jameel said for the amateur golfers in the men's category, eligibility criteria for this event was that only players with a handicap of 12 and below were eligible to participate. “This restriction ensures that only the talented and established golf players combing the national golf circuit will get a chance to exhibit their prowess.”

“In regard to hole in one prize, the international golf body has introduced an amendment, whereby amateur golfers are eligible to win a car as a reward in case of a hole in one. Encouraged by this, Honda has offered a car to the lucky winner of a hole in one. In addition, Pak Suzuki have also offered a Suzuki High Speed Motorcycle to the player who gets a hole in one. The car on offer is for a hole in one on the second hole and the motorcycle is for a hole in one on the 13th hole,” he added.  Omer Mir said ample efforts had been put in by the organising team at Royal Palm to prepare the golf course for this occasion and during the practice rounds over the past two days, the players had liked the playing conditions at the Royal Palm Golf Course.

Kh Pervaiz said top golfers of the country have been competing for this title. He said besides the main event, the other events at stake were the event of seniors (55 years and above) and ladies.

“The main event for amateurs will be contested over three rounds with 18 holes to be played each day making it a total of 54 holes. The seniors will compete over a total of 18 holes with 9 holes to be played on November 29 and 9 holes on November 30. Ladies contest will be over 18 holes on November 30 and criteria for handicap is 30 and below,” he concluded.
