LAHORE  - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the PML-N government is committed to solving the national issues and providing maximum relief to the masses.

He said that the government at present is paying attention on national reconstruction with new spirit and is spending billions of rupees on the implementation of revolutionary programmes for the welfare of low-income people.

He was talking to Assembly members of various districts here on Wednesday. These steps aim at bringing prosperity, improvement and comfort to the life of the common man, he said.

The Government is following a solid strategy for launching new energy projects in which foreign investors are keenly interested to take up those for generating electricity through traditional and alternative sources.

He said that the Punjab government has made agreements with investors of China, Germany, Qatar, Canada and other countries in this behalf. The CM was optimistic about the expeditious completion of energy projects.

He said that due to govt steps, prices of essential items especially vegetables are stabilising.  He said that nobody would be allowed to overcharge than the rates fixed by the Market Committees  He asked the elected representatives to keep a watchful eye on the hoarders and profiteers.  The Assembly members on the occasion also apprised the CM about the progress in development schemes and other problems of their respective areas.

Shahbaz Sharif said that country is facing a number of problems but resources are limited.

However, he said, strong national economy is a strong desire of the Prime Minister as it is only means to  come out of dependence of others and the foreign aid which have been hallmark of the past governments.

He further said that the exports of the country will increase substantially after granting the status of GPS Plus to Pakistan by the European Union which will result in creating new job opportunities in the country.

Shahbaz said that the provincial government is taking all necessary steps to keep the prices of vegetables, fruits, pulses and other essential items within the reach of common man and due to the governmental steps prices of essential items are stabilising in the province. However, there is still need to do a lot, he added.

He said that the scope of Sastay Bazaars is being extended in the province and administrations all over the province have been directed to install Sastay Bazaars thrice a week where edibles items would be available to the people at cheaper rates and 20kg atta bag at ex-mill rate. He said that planning has been made to provide direct targeted subsidy for lessening the burden of price-hike on the low-income families which will be implemented soon.

He said that Punjab government has decided to set up Punjab Rozegar Bank in the province for the provision of loans to the youth on soft terms for starting their own business.

Shahbaz directed Assembly members to also play their due role for providing relief to the people and support the efforts of the govt for stabilising prices.
