LAHORE - The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) sensitised hundreds of schoolchildren including teachers on the proper disposal of waste and precautionary measures on dengue epidemic by carrying out an extensive awareness campaign on the occasion of Children Literature Festival held at Children Library Complex.
Awareness campaign included setting up of stall, lecture sessions, screening of cartoon animations & documentaries, display & distribution of awareness materials. A large number of children along with teachers visited LWMC stall, watched documentaries and got their faces and hands painted with cleanliness messages especially ‘CLEAN LAHORE’.
During awareness sessions, Head of Communication Department Jamil Khawar and assistant manager Muhammad Umair Khan delivered lectures to visitors of the festival.
The LWMC also made special arrangements of cleanliness in and around the venue to maintain neat and tidy look. In this regard, Turkish company Albayrak, deployed a crew of 50 workers including machinery which ensured cleanliness at literature festival. Small bins were abundantly placed to help visitors avoid littering. LWMC Waste bin character, a mascot named ‘Biny’ vigorously entertained the visitors along with provision of guidance on disposal of waste.
People termed awareness activity a novel thing for their children and appreciated LWMC cleanliness & awareness efforts. Khawar said that LWMC community mobilisation and awareness programme is aimed at sensitising people on sanitation especially school going children from early age and children literature festival proved to be an excellent opportunity for us thousands of children are expected to be tapped from across the country.
