Lahore - WWF-Pakistan through its Green Skills Project held a ceremony to distribute farmer toolkits and veterinary toolkits among less privileged farming families. The ceremony was held at Government Elementary College, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh where 600 toolkits were distributed among people. Ahmad Yar Hanjra, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) was the chief guest.
Dr Ghulam Akbar, Senior Director Programmes, WWF-Pakistan, gave a brief overview of the project. He further told that through Green Skills Project, abilities and advancement of 300 trainees were enhanced through trains in the field of renewable/sustainable energy, livestock and after-crop management.
The 300 trainees were instrumental in the further training of 2,300 farming families.
According to Dr Ghulam Akbar, Senior Director Programmes, WWF-Pakistan, ‘WWF-Pakistan is providing alternate livelihood options to local communities and also sensitising them to conserve natural resources.’
The programme was carried out as a pilot project in four districts of Punjab (Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Khanewal, and Jhang). The chief guest appreciated the role of WWF-Pakistan in empowering communities and further noted that WWF-Pakistan’s commitment to Pakistan for rural youth is inspiring.
The event was also attended by Anwar Naseem, Senior Director Operations and Corporate Relations, WWF-Pakistan; Dr Masood Arshad, Senior Manager, WWF-Pakistan; Adnan Hanif, Senior Manager Operations, WWF-Pakistan and Arshia Khurshid, Project Manager Green Skills Project, WWF-Pakistan.
The project is supported by Fund for Innovative Training, created under TVET Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Federal Republic of Germany. It is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH GIZ in collaboration with NAVTTC.
