Peshawar Zalmi announces Rs2.5 million for boxer Waseem

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani businessman and owner of franchise, Peshawar Zalmi of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Javed Afridi on Monday announced Rs2.5 million for boxer Muhammad Waseem in acknowledgment of his services for Pakistan.

The announcement was made a day after Waseem defeated Philippines’ Giemel Magramo in Seoul, South Korea to successfully defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title.

Known as ‘Falcon Khan’ for his swift boxing style, the 28-year-old outplayed Magramo in a tough 12-round fight.

The reward was announced by Javed Afridi in a message posted on Twitter.

“I hereby announce Rs 2.5 million for World Boxing Champion Muhammad Waseem. He's a real Hero of Pakistan. PZF vows to sponsor him in upcoming events,” Afridi said.

Afridi also announced the Quetta-born boxer as Peshawar Zalmi’s ambassador.

Waseem, Pakistan’s first professional boxer, had won the WBC silver flyweight title in July this year after defeating favourite Jether Oliva from the Philippines.
