Over 300 properties sealed for non-payment of property tax

RAWALPINDI: The Excise and Taxation Department sealed over 300 commercial and residential properties during a campaign against property tax defaulters.

A spokesman for the department said that the teams conducted raids in several areas and sealed properties of tax defaulters. He said that the department also recovered property tax arrears amounting to Rs14 million during the last two weeks.

The properties whose owners had not submitted their property tax dues were sealed in different areas, while the department is expecting to collect over Rs20 million property tax arrears from the defaulters, he added.

The Excise and Taxation department during its special campaign is also checking vehicles and recovering outstanding dues of token tax, he added. He urged the owners of properties and vehicles to pay their property and token taxes at the earliest, otherwise; strict action would be taken under the law against the defaulters.–APP

MCI to rehabilitate sewerage system

ISLAMABAD: Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad has devised a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and up-grade sewerage system in the federal capital to cope with the needs of the city, Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA Sheikh Ansar Aziz said on Monday.

The mayor was chairing a monthly review meeting of sewerage system in the city for the month of October. Under the plan, he said, the existing sewerage system would be up-graded to meet future needs of the city. Municipalities around the world focus on sewerage system operations and uplift, he said.

The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad Administration has worked out plan to maintain and upgrade the sewerage system. All the drains are cleaned regularly. New sewerage lines wherever required are being laid while work for up-gradation and expansion of sewerage treatment plant is also in progress, Sheikh Anser further said.

The meeting was told that 89 complaints were received during October regarding different issues pertaining to sewerage system and transmitted for early action. The meeting was also told that the complaints were processed for resolving issues of the residents of the city promptly and efficiently.

Out of the 89 complaints regarding different issues pertaining to sewerage, 46 were resolved and 29 were under process for early disposal by the concerned formations. Moreover, complainants had also been informed about the status of their complaints, the meeting was informed.–INP

Wild grass, bushes irk G-11 residents

ISLAMABAD: The residents of sector G-11 have stressed the Capital Development Authority to trim the bushes and wild grass from the footpaths, streets and open plots of the sector.

“We have lodged complaints time and again with the authorities concerned, but no one paid any attention to our requests,” said Salman Khan, a resident of G-11 sector.

“Our children play in the streets covered with wild bushes, and there is always danger of poisonous insects especially in the rainy season. Now, these bushes have grown up to three to four feet high and no one ever came to cut them,” complained Robina, a resident of G-11/3.–APP

Moreover, wild bushes are giving a look of a forest while the grass has covered the footpaths.

Due to wild bushes on green belt, people are unable to cross the  belt, and to cross while crossing it  one has to walk for a long distance.

An official of CDA said, “The process for the beautification of footpaths, parks, playing areas for kids and green belts are already in full swing, whereas the trimming of wild bushes and shrubs and grass is also in progress.

The residents, traders, civil society, and students will also be invited to be a part of the campaign, he said.
