SUKKUR - Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that when the Qadianis were declared non-Muslims in the regime of late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB), then how could Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) support the hastily brought amendment to the law relating to finality of the prophethood?
He said it was strange that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, instead of settling the issue through negotiations, decided to crackdown on the protesters demanding resignations of those behind the amendment.
He was talking to media here at his residence on Monday. He was of the opinion that politics and religion should be separate. “But today, politics is done in the name of religion, which is dangerous,” he lamented.
He said that had the matter been tabled in the National Assembly, perhaps such a situation would have never come to such a pass.
Severely criticising the government, Khursheed said that due to its wrong planning; people had to face problems.
He said that the government thought that by taking the news channels off air, the situation would be defused. “This is not the correct way to solve the matters,” he opined.
Leader of the opposition further said that geographical condition of the region was changing while Pakistan had been left alone in the whole region, as none of the neighboring countries was with Pakistan.
He said that the thinking of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari was same, and this would take some time to produce results. He said that he had completed fifty years in politics and had gained sufficient experience, adding that “We do not want to come to power. Instead, we need Pakistan.”
He stressed that the forthcoming general elections must be held on time as holding them before time would not augur well for the country.
He said that PPP and other opposition parties had saved Nawaz Sharif in 2014 due to which he was under the illusion that nothing could harm him now.
Talking about public meeting of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) held on Sunday, he said that actually 95 percent people had come there to see their spiritual leader while the remaining five percent were genuine supporters of the alliance.
