RCB slaps heavy fines on food outlets

Rawalpindi - The Food Control Department of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board imposed fines worth Rs300,000 on food outlets for unhygienic food and poor cleanliness conditions.

According to the RCB spokesman Qaiser Mahmood, the RCB teams conducted surprise raids at different food outlets in Mughalabad, Tench Bhatta, Dhoke Chaudharian, Bakra Mandi Road, Saddar, Masrial Road and other areas and collected 127 food samples, which were sent to laboratory for quality tests.

Fines of Rs300,000 were imposed on food outlets including restaurants, bakeries, refreshment centres, milk, meat and sweet shops and others, the spokesman said. The RCB teams also visited several food outlets and issued 81 notices on poor cleanliness, besides ordering them to maintain the standard, otherwise; strict action would be taken against the rule violators.

The spokesman said that raids on food outlets would continue, adding that teams were directed to also check the health of workers serving at the food outlets.

Over 300 properties sealed for

non-payment of property tax

The Excise and Taxation Department sealed over 300 commercial and residential properties during a campaign against property tax defaulters.

A spokesman for the department said that the teams conducted raids in several areas and sealed properties of tax defaulters. He said that the department also recovered property tax arrears amounting to Rs14 million during the last two weeks.

The properties whose owners had not submitted their property tax dues were sealed in different areas, while the department is expecting to collect over Rs20 million property tax arrears from the defaulters, he added.

The Excise and Taxation department during its special campaign is also checking vehicles and recovering outstanding dues of token tax, he added. He urged the owners of properties and vehicles to pay their property and token taxes at the earliest, otherwise; strict action would be taken under the law against the defaulters.
