Abid Akber stuns M Abid in National Ranking Tennis

ISLAMABAD - Abid Ali Akber stunned second seed M Abid in a one-sided affair in the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s singles of 32nd Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

Abid Ali proved too good against M Abid of Lahore by displaying powerful combination of forehand and backhand drives. Abid Ali started aggressively and didn’t allow his opponent to settle down throughout the match, thus registered an impressive victory against the second seed.

In another pre-quarterfinal, Shamael Chaudhry won his encounter against Waqas Malik of Lahore in a sizzling three-set match. Shamael won the first set comfortably but faced resistance in the second set, which finished at the tie-break in favour of Waqas. In the final set, Shamael again proved his mettle by playing strong serves and solid ground strokes down the line and cross court.

In other men’s singles pre-quarterfinal, top seed Aqeel Khan breezed past Ahmed Chaudhry 6-0, 6-2. Seasoned campaigner and eighth seed Heera Ashiq struggled hard to win his encounter against Barkatullah from Peshawar in a well-played three-set match. Heera Ashiq faced tough resistance in the first set but succeeded in winning it 6-4. He lost the second 6-7(7) after a long battle but he fought back really well and utilized his experience to trounce his opponent in the third set 6-1 to win the encounter.

Yousaf Khalil comfortable toppled Subhan Bin Salik with the scores of 7-5, 6-1 while Muzammil Murtaza outpaced Abbas Khan 6-3, 6-4; Muhammad Shoaib outsmarted Shahid Afridi 6-2, 6-3 and Mudassar Murtaza overwhelmed Asad Ullah 6-3, 6-2 to qualify for the next round.

In boys U-18 category, eighth seed Moosa Chaudhry struggled hard to win his pre-quarterfinal against Parbhat Kumar from Karachi in a well-contested three-set match. Moosa Ch beat Parbhat Kumar 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Top seed Muhammad Shoaib saved his match against upcoming Sami Zeb Khan in another hard—fought two-set encounter. Shaoib won the match 7-5, 7-5.

In other U-18 matches, Osma Khan played well against Muhammad Zaryab and overpowered him by 6-4, 6-3. Aqib Umer excelled against M Huzaifa Khan routing him by 6-2, 6-4 while Ahmed Asjad faced some resistance from Subhan Bin Salik before beating it 6-2, 7-5. Abdullah Adnan played exceptionally against Hassan Ali and outlasted him by 6-4, 6-1; Uzair Khan struggled hard against Kamran Khan before winning the encounter by 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 while in the last encounter of boys U-18, Ahmed Kamil fought hard to beat spirited Zalan Khan 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

In the first round boys U-14 singles, Semi Zeb beat Hamza Jawad 5-4(3), 4-0; Ahmed Nael beat Haseeb Ullah 5-4(4), 5-4(6); Shahsawar Khan beat Ahmed Ali 4-0, 4-0; M.Huzaifa beat Faizan Fayyaz 4-0, 5-3; Uzair Khan beat Kamran Khan 4-0, 5-4(3); Huzaima Rehman beat Bilal Asim 2-4, 4-1, 4-1; Azan Shahid beat Hamidullah 1-4, 5-3, 4-2; Shaeel Tahir beat Abdullah Hanan Khan 4-2, 4-2.

Kashan Umer beat Muhamamd Zaryab 4-2, 4-2; Ihtesham Arif beat Azan Sajid 4-0, 4-0; M Talha Khan beat Haider Ali 4-0, 4-0; Hassan Ali beat Saeed Suleman 4-0 4-1; Hamza Roman beat Muhammad Aasim 4-0, 4-0; Husnain Ali beat M.Omer 4-1, 4-1; Omer Masood beat Ali Zain 4-0, 4-2 and Hamid Israr beat Yahya Musa Luni 4-0, 4-1.
