Farhan grabs men’s singles title in 18th Westbury Tennis

LAHORE - Farhan Altaf beat promising Zain Nawab in the men’s singles final to clinch the title in the 18th Westbury Ranking Championship that concluded at DA Creek Club. The Westbury Group was the sponsor and Karachi Tennis Association organized this week-long event under the auspices of Sindh Tennis Association. 

Mr. Rashid Jan Muhammad, Chief Executive of Westbury Group, was the chief guest and gave away trophies and awards to winners and runners-up of various events. In his speech, he promised to continue this annual feature with enhanced sponsorships next year. Gulzar Firoz thanked DA Creek Club and sponsors for their continuous support for the promotion of tennis in country. PTF Vice President M Khalid Rehmani said two more tournaments will be held in December in Karachi and one in Hyderabad. 

The men’s singles final between Farhan Altaf and Zain Nawab lasted for two and half hour and after a tough battle, Farhan emerged as title winner with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 10-5. The ladies singles title was claimed by Natalia Zaman, who beat Zainab Ali 7-5, 6-2. The U-17 singles title was won by Raahim Veqar, who beat Mubneer Derbari 6-2, 6-4. Samer Zaman bagged the U15 singles title by beating Dhuraf Das 4-0, 4-1, Versha Das claimed girls U-15 singles title by beating Laaibah Ismail 4-0, 4-2. 

Ahsan Ahmed won U-13 singles title by beating Nael Mirza 4-1, 4-1, Ruhab Faisal won U-11 singles title by beating Hadi Mehmood 2-4, 4-1, 4-1 and Rashid Ali won U-9 singles final by beating Majid Ali 4-2, 4-2. In 35 plus doubles final, Danish Ramzan/Noor-e-Mustafa beat Zain Nawab/Razi Nawab 8-4 for title. In boys U-13 singles final, Nael Mirza/Nadir Mirza beat Abdullah Razaq/Dhuraf Das 4-2, 4-2 for title.
