Brigadier dodges bullets

ISLAMABAD A serving Brigadier Waqar was lucky enough to escape a terrorist attack here on Tuesday, as three senior army officers have already lost their lives in terrorist attacks this month. According to details, two terrorists sprayed bullets at Brigadier Waqars jeep in Sector I/9 at a time when he along with his mother was leaving his residence for bank. Luckily, all the persons including driver narrowly escaped the attack and remained unhurt. The attackers, however, managed to flee from the scene. According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists were present near the house of Brigadier located in Street 17 of Sector I/9, as the official jeep reached his house an hour before the incident occurred. After the incident, senior police officials reached the scene. The local police force cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the area. It is relevant to note here that senior army officers have become target of terrorists after opposition from top army brass to the controversial Kerry-Lugar Law (KLW) and launching of operation in South Waziristan. The terrorists accomplished last two attacks in a same manner. In both cases, they used motorbikes and were already present on the scene and after committing crime fled away from the scene. Moreover, sources in security agencies claimed, all attackers were between 22 to 25 years of age. On October 22, terrorists gunned down Brigadier Moeenuddin Ahmad along with his driver when he was on his way to office in army jeep. In that incident, two motorcyclists intercepted the jeep in Sector G-11/1, opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle and then fled away from the scene. The terrorists also martyred two senior officials of army, Brig Anwar-ul-Haq Ramday and Lt Col Waseem, when they attacked General Headquarters (GHQ) on October 10.
