If you are not corrupt

Being in construction business, I have been interacting with both CDA and SNGPL on regular basis. Initially I tried to approach these companies on my own to get services from them. The idea was to save myself from bribes one has to supposedly give in govt/semi-govt organisations. After one year of running from pillar to post, I was advised by a friend to follow the simpler route and I did. I am now so free from hassles that I can get my work done in a day, thanks to the systematic and very well-defined money distribution system in these companies. This mechanism provides the super-efficient environment needed for delivering unmatched services to the common man. However the sad part is that everyone who has been paid the money somehow uses name of the head of the institution as the ultimate beneficiary, which I suspect, is not quite true. Through the columns of your newspaper, I would like to suggest a very viable and effective mechanism, which will enable the top management to have a close watch on its employees activities. A one-page report on all the plots transferred or Sui gas connections given to the public should reach the chairman/MD every afternoon along with the mobile numbers of the individuals who applied for the services. A simple call to them will act as a deterrent against corruption of the lower ranks. I am sure making a few calls a day will not be too much of a problem for the higher management which is paid by the government to ensure effective working of these institutions. -DR.
