Rawalpindi - The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) foiled several bids of smuggling a huge quantity of heroin besides arresting 4 people including a woman, informed the ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Monday.

The force also seized 2 vehicles used in narcotics smuggling, he added.

According to him, the ANF in various operations conducted at Rawalpindi, Lahore and Peshawar, foiled several attempts to smuggle narcotics and seized 114-kg heroin and 24-kg hasheed.

During these operations, 4 drug peddlers including a lady were rounded up in addition to confiscation of 2 vehicles. Most of the recovered drug was destined for abroad. The worth of recovered drugs amounts to Rs 782 million approximately in international market, he said.

He said that ANF Rawalpindi intercepted a Toyota corolla (M-4531) near Quid-e-Azam International Hospital, Golra Mor, GT Road and recovered 5-kg heroin from the car. Two drug smugglers namely Imdad Hussain and Atique-ur-Rehman were taken into custody at the spot. As per reports, heroin was being transported from Khyber Agency and was to be received by a local supplier at Rawalpindi city, he said.

Similarly, in another action, the ANF Rawalpindi arrested a lady drug peddler Sadia and recovered 500 grams of heroin from her possession. She was arrested in an operation carried out near Graveyard Number 36, Pirwadhai. According to initial reports, she was involved in supply of drugs at local level.

On the other hand, ANF Lahore Airport team on pursuance of information, foiled a bid to smuggle heroin abroad and recovered 108-kg fine quality heroin from a consignment at the Air Cargo, Allama Iqbal International Airport. The consignment was carrying a grinding machine in a wooden box and heroin was tactfully concealed inside the wooden packing.

The consignment was destined for Malaysia and was booked by one Inam Ullah for a recipient namely Mushtaq Ahmed residing at Bentong Pahang, Malaysia. ANF has sent its teams for apprehending the dispatcher, the spokesman informed.  

An operation against drug mafia in Peshawar also led to recovery of 24-kg hasheesh from a car (LOV-0206) near main Motorway Toll Plaza, he said adding that the drug was tactfully concealed in an oil tank and cavities in front doors of the car. A drug smuggler Muhammad Usman was apprehended at the spot. ANF registered cases against the accused and started investigation, he said.
