Shah seeks three more months for CEC appointment

ISLAMABAD- Syed Khursheed Shah, leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, today requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan to grant three more months for the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

The hearing of a case pertaining to the appointment of CEC was held at the Supreme Court. During the course of the hearing, Shah’s counsel Aitezaz Ahsan on his behalf submitted the reply over the issue.

In his reply, Shah maintained that CEC was a constitutional post and that consultations were underway with the Prime Minister and other political parties. In order to have consensus candidate, Shah requested the court that three months should be granted for more consultations. Shah’s reply came at the end of October 28, 2014 deadline set by the Supreme Court for the appointment of CEC.
